High Plains Raceway Recap - Josh Galster

Josh Galster put in a great weekend at High Plains Raceway last weekend, July 31- Aug 1, capturing four race wins, a second place, and a fourth place finish against the 1000cc bikes. Josh also set three new class lap records on his Slednecks and BAZI backed ZX-6R, built by EDR Performance.

Saturday's Middleweight Supersport race came right after a downpour of rain during the lunch break that had all the riders scrambling for rain tires which they didn't have to use. By the time the race started, the rain had stopped and the track had been dried off by the heavy winds. At the start of the MWSS race, Josh came out of turn two in fifth place where he hunted down the leaders and picked them off one by one to take the checkered flag. In the Heavyweight Supersport class, Josh was stalking the leader but made an error just before the white flag lap which cost him the win, finishing second.

Sunday's weather was hot and dry but made for some good racing and fast times. In the Middleweight Superbike race, Josh won the race and broke the class lap record which he set at last year's visit to High Plains Raceway, by a full second. The Race of the Rockies GTU race was a two-bike show down with a blistering pace, where Josh was the only 600cc bike who broke into the 1:47's and set another class lap record at 1:47.86.

"That was a tough race battling with Dalton. We kept yo-yoing back and forth all race long and I knew I had to make a pass on him before we got into too much traffic, because I didn't want to get held up. With a few laps to go, I made the pass and was able to navigate through traffic and take the win," Josh said.

In the Race of the Rockies GTO race, against the big bikes, Josh was holding down sixth place until mid-race where he kept the pace of the three riders in front, and passed the slowing fifth place rider. Making a move on the inside of turn six, hard on the brakes, Josh slotted himself in fourth with only a few more laps to go and put his head down to gap the rider behind and catch up to his fellow Grandprix Motorsports rider as they finished third and fourth, nose-to-tail.

With another class lap record being broken in the Heavyweight Superbike, Josh made short work of that race. He finished with a commanding lead after a crazy start where the leader lost power to his bike and was swarmed by the field in turn three, with bikes going every which way, to pass the slowed rider.

Josh would like to thank all his friends and family who attended the race and gave their support along with Slednecks, BAZI, EDR Performance, Dunlop, Grandprix Motorsports, California Superbike School, Bazzaz Performance, Arai, LeoVince, Attack Performance, and Lockhart Phillips.
